Penis Pumps for Peyronie’s disease

Peyronie’s disease causes discomfort and in some men with a most severe case of bent penis, lot of pain, that’s why; there are a number of treatments to seize the effects of this condition. The goals of the treatments are to relief pain and arrest the progression of the disease, strengthen the penis (if the deformity is drastic and the curvature is painful) and the cure of impotence.

Penis pumps are one of the many alternatives available out there to try to improve this condition and to use as a part of another treatment plan. A vacuum erection/constriction device (penis pump) is primarily used by men to help them achieve an erection, that is,  men with erectile dysfunction.  These devices consist of a cylinder with either a manual or motorized pump is placed over the penis to create a suction motion. The purpose is to create a vacuum around the penis to enhance blood flow. When used successfully for the right condition, the result is a larger, engorged penis.

For men who have Peyronie’s disease, the tension on the penis created by the vacuum may trigger the plaque in the penis to break down or be reconstructed, which can then lead to a reduction in penile curvature.

Few studies have looked at the effects of using a Penis Pump for Peyronie’s Disease. One was carried out by the Department of Urology, St Peter’s Hospitals and The Institute of Urology in London, UK.

The conclusion of the study called ‘The role of vacuum pump therapy to mechanically straighten the penis in Peyronie’s disease’ was that vacuum therapy can improve or stabilize the curvature of PD, is safe to use in all stages of the disease, and might reduce the number of patients going on to surgery.

Men with Peyronie’s disease should use a penis pump only if their condition is stable (has not changed in at least 3 months) and their penile curvature is not very severe. Your doctor can make that decision. Each treatment should take about 10 minutes: apply the vacuum and maintain it for 3 minutes, then release and repeat two more times. Two sessions per day is suggested, and treatment should continue for several months.

Although penis pumps have been used for a while to treat PD, latest developments in traction technology have advanced so much that it’s better to use a product like this to cure the disease.
