Coenzyme Q10 and Peyronie’s Disease Treatment

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance that’s found naturally in the body and helps convert food into energy. CoQ10 is found in almost every cell in the body, and it is a powerful antioxidant. This powerful antioxidant has demonstrated some benefit in men who suffer from Peyronie’s disease or curved penis, the condition we have been talking about, in which the penis bends in an abnormal manner, caused by a the build up of plaque or scar tissue in the penis, which leads to erectile dysfunction and in most severe cases pain, when having sexual relations. There are many treatments to improve the quality of life in men suffering from bent penis and now a new study demonstrates that 300 mg of Q10 per day for 24 weeks is of help.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 186 men suffering from Peyronie’s Disease were assigned to take either 300 mg CoQ10 for treatment or placebo daily for 24 weeks. Every four weeks throughout the study, the men were evaluated for erectile function and pain. At the study’s end, main plaque size and mean penile curvature degree had declined in men who had taken coenzyme Q10 for Peyronie’s disease treatment. In the men who took the placebo, however, plaque size and the bent in the penis worsened.

There are more options to treat this condition but it’s really difficult to say if there’s one treatment better than the other. Lots of research is being made, let’s hope that other investigators will further explore the benefits of using coenzyme Q10 for Peyronie’s disease treatment.
